Submitted by Don Davis, Toronto. Report received from Ann Gray of Toronto:
Hi Don,
On Tuesday, Nov. 11/14, we did 5.5 hours of monitoring at the Leslie Street Spit (a.k.a. Tommy Thompson Park, Toronto) for the week. The temperature was +8C to +12C and the morning NW breeze changed to a southerly breeze by 11 am. We found an active MONARCH at Lighthouse Point a few feet away from the location point of the Monarch we found on Friday the 7th of November. Since it was so close to the same area, we believe it is possibly the same Monarch.
In checking my records, I found the following information :
1) On 15 November 2012 , we found 1 Monarch at Lighthouse Point.
2) On 2 November 2011, we found 13 Monarchs at Lighthouse Point but none were found the following week. These 13 Monarchs appear to have been the last seen at the end of that season.
We did not find any Monarchs in November 2013, which was a poor year for Monarchs.
On Tuesday we also found 1 RED ADMIRAL, 6 CABBAGE WHITES and 28 ORANGE SULPHURS. None of the Butterflies seen were nectaring although some plants still have flowers and the White Clover was still fragrant.
