Gwen planted 24 Red Emperor tulip bulbs today. Though we have recently had some light snowfall and overnight frost, the soil was quite thawed and easy to turn over. We observed several earthworms and grubs. We had to plant the bulbs in a small fenced enclosure so that the local deer won't nibble the emerging shoots in the spring. We are expecting some temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees C over the next week, so hopefully the bulbs will transition nicely into their new homes.
