We planted our tulip bulbs on Nov. 10th at 1:45 in the afternoon. It was a sunny, clear day with no clouds in the blue sky. It felt warm and there wasn't any breeze. The air temperature was about 62F. Some of us predicted that the soil temperature would be warmer than the air temperature because it is underground and protected like a blanket. Some of us predicted that the soil temperature would be colder than the air because the sun doesn't shine on it. The soil temperature was 57F! The soil temperature was colder than the air temperature.
