I checked these caterpillars again today 01/20/15. Half were absent. Initially, I saw about fifteen. Today, I saw seven. This location, the Longue Vue Gardens, has one cluster of milkweed. It is an open-air protected monarch habitat about 4 feet across. Basically just a few plants with a cheerful sign posted. The plants are wilted, but the bases of the leaves are still barely green and the caterpillars are happily munching away.
