Thousands of Robins began to arrive in Martinsburg, WV on 1/24/2015. They are nesting en mass in the area trees around my home. This seems to be about 5 weeks early based on my observations at this location for the past 12 years.
I watched a parade of them fly to a melted pool of water to drink for about an hour until it got dark. Lots of crabapples and crab cherries still on the trees. Other than that not much else. They seem to flock to the evergreen trees when night falls.
They are everywhere. Probably 2000 just around my property and many more throughout the local area. They scare the heck out of my retriever when he strolls under the pine trees and they all take flight.
Is this a normal migration?
