10:00am hundreds of robins arrived for the day. Ours is a city/suburban neighborhood with a school/athletic fields 200 yards away. This is an 80-year old development with mature oaks and lots of yard shrubs, plantings and alleyways. It was a sunny day in the low 30'sF. The robins were predominantly in the trees with lots of movement from small trees and shrubs to larger trees to any available puddle of water...the alleys provided a few big ones...much drinking going on and lots of pooping. The cars, sidewalks and road surfaces were covered with berry-filled droppings beneath the trees. I walked the entire neighborhood of 8-10 blocks plus the school grounds and the robins were in one block only - alley to alley, one block long. They remained until 4:00pm, just prior to dusk and they departed. They did not return today, Saturday, 01/07. This is a typical annual event on our block sometime in the month of February. This year was early and a larger wave.
