Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 03/08/2015

Number: 1

A male rufus was at our feeder at 5:30 pm at our home near the Swart Bay ferry terminal at the north end of the Saanich Peninsula. My co-worker said a male rufus showed up at his house this morning. He lives about 15 miles south of us on the North Saanich and Central Saanich border. Both of us live on the east side of the peninsula so the birds are probably flyng over from the US gulf islands. We still have 3 to 4 pairs of Anna's that over wintered and are hitting our suet cage of shredded cotton batten for nesting material. So the fun begins.
