Coopers Hawk swooped me in my back yard in the City of St. Paul, as he tried to catch English Sparrows on my bird feeder. He maneuvered between the corner of my house and my pergola--a very small space -- at a very high speed and almost hit me as I came out the back door. He landed hard on the neighbor's fence, the sparrows and squirrels all loudly scattered and the hawk sat and stared at me for 2 minutes before he flew off. He didn't catch anything that time. I live only a mile from the Mississippi River. He could have wintered over in the Twin Cities area, or he could be migrating up the Mississippi River.
