If the native milkweeds didn't get nipped by last week's freeze too much
there should be milkweed and nectar sources for the remigrant Monarchs moving
north and northeast as they come up from Mexico the next few weeks.
There are some steady rains moving from the south to the NNE out of northern
Mexico between the TX coast and San Antonio and then to the NE the last 30
hrs. We've had over 3 in. in Port Lavaca, but the pasture in western DeWitt is
going over 4 in. They have been having flood warnings all morning and the showers
and heavy rains will continue into the evening, they are saying possibly 3
more inches ...
This is all great as the creeks and rivers need to fill and flow towards the bays at least once a year ... well, once every three years. Our stock tank might catch a bit of water and we won't have to pump water in
from the well.
There is a great chance for wildflowers eastsoutheast of San Antonio the next few weeks on into April and May ... that will be great for the Monarchs!
