Date: 03/17/2015

Number: 1

We have had a weird first 2 and a half months of 2015, plentiful rain, warm temperatures in January and Febtuary, coolish in the first part of March but NO sun, most days are cloudy or overcast. There is lots of green but no milkweed at the Cibolo Nature Center milkweed patch, my milkweed patch (I did find a small A. oenotheroides in my short grass meadow) or on the ROW's.

I started looking for milkweed at CNC on February 15th, thinking that it would come up early. Around the first of March, I remembered what an old timer had told me years ago: "Sun on the ground is what drives milkweed."
We had a couple of sunny days on March 12th and 13th but then it clouded up again.

Milkweed (A. asperula) is up Guadalupe River State Park in a prescribed burn area. It was burned in the fall of 2012 and the fire got a mite hot. "Sun on the ground."
