Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 03/28/2015

Number: 1

Approximately 0900 hrs heard a robin close by but could not see it. It was -5C at the time. I haven't heard or seen any robins since.

I expect he was just tuning up as I heard him late morning when I was in the yard for about 5 minutes. I never did hear him again (4/8).

I have seen 2 robins this year. I live here at the outskirts of my city for 50 years. For the past several years the redwing black birds have arrived in my yard in a mixed flock with 15-20 robins. They stay together as a flock for a number of days, feeding on the ground and in my crab apple tree. Then like magic the robins pair off and the redwing black birds disappear.

This year the redwing blackbirds arrived alone 5 days ago (4/3) and are still here. I saw one robin 2 days ago in my crabapple tree with a small flock of grackles (the first of the grackles this year) who had just been worrying a crow. Each year there seem to be fewer robins in my neighbourhood along with a marked increase in nesting grackles.
