My husband and I saw our first monarch of the season today! She was laying eggs on our native milkweed (Asclepias viridis). We had waited so long for this day in great anticipation! Such a joy to see her fluttering and flying buoyantly, going diligently about finding fresh milkweed plants. It was around 11am with mostly cloudy skies, quite breezy, and around 75 degrees F. After watching her for awhile, I saw that there was a second monarch laying eggs in another part of the pasture, so I followed her around as well -- oftentimes simply being as still as possible, so she would not be disturbed. Both of the monarchs had faded wings & both laid eggs on many milkweed plants. They also both rested at times amidst the dewy grass & wildflowers. So thankful they have come and amazed at their beauty and incredible journey.
