Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/01/2015

Number: 1

This is a photo of the first monarch seen this season. She is laying an egg on a Asclepias viridis milkweed. It was a joy to see her arrive today -- because of the uncertain wait, even more cherished! The weather was perfect with a cloudy sky (almost misty at times), quite breezy, and 75 degrees F. She was later joined by a second monarch also actively laying eggs around 11am. A couple of hours later thunderstorms come through bring rain, lightning, thunder, and strong winds till evening. The milkweed and wildflowers are abundant -- and lots of blackberry blossoms as a good nectar source.
