Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/06/2015

Number: 1

I unexpectedly found my first monarch caterpillar of the season today! Had been checking milkweed plants for eggs, but then this little baby turned up. In the photo he appears to be asking, "Are you done taking photos yet!" I found him around 2pm and am thinking he may have been hatched in early morning, as he is a first instar larva.

I didn't find any other caterpillars this afternoon, but did find a lot of eggs and saw 3 faded monarchs laying eggs. I checked from about 1:30-2:30pm. It was a warm day (80 degrees F), partly cloudy with very gusty wind.
