Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/07/2015

Number: 1

This was an amazing monarch morning! In the space of about 45 minutes I saw at least 6 monarchs, of which five were actively egg-laying females, the other one flying across the pasture. It was about 78 degrees F, partly cloudy, and quite breezy.

I followed one particular monarch around as she fluttered and flew from milkweed to milkweed. She was very selective, landing on quite a few plants until finally choosing a desirable one for her eggs. I think the ones she checked, but left, already had eggs or maybe small insects.

She was very accepting of my presence and ended up circling me multiple times within touching distance. I was enchanted! It is her photo you see below as she lays her egg on one of the favored plants.
