Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/08/2015

Number: 1

This was another wonderful monarch morning! From about 10:30am to noon, I observed at least 10 monarch females egg-laying in our pasture and in our neighbor's pasture. It was around 78 degrees F, partly cloudy, and quite windy. The monarchs rarely get too close to one another, always finding large swaths of field to traverse, making their milkweed selections, flying, floating, and fluttering about.

I followed several of them at different times, trying not to disturb them, but hoping to get photos and observe their actions. Like yesterday, I had some magical close encounters with them fluttering right next to me. All of the monarch females I have seen, so far, have various degrees of fading of their wings.

The photo below is of the first monarch I saw today. She is resting briefly on a milkweed plant in between laying eggs ~ beautiful and inspiring!
