Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/12/2015

Number: 1

Yesterday two robins visited our backyard, and one kept bathing in one of our birdbaths. They don't usually come into the backyard very long, as I have a forest floor type backyard instead of "lawn" (turf). The first robin bathed in our rust-colored birdbath, the one from which it usually drinks at pre-dusk. The second robin, who appeared older, landed on the ground and also flew around and watched from the maple tree but didn't join in the bath. I was sitting about five feet from the birdbath, assembly our new portable greenhouse... and the robin just watched me, then bathed.

While cleaning soil and leaf litter off my patio for the greenhouse, I also found quite a few earthworms yesterday... they were fat and ready for spring! Of course I threw the worms out into the yard, off the patio. Today I found our first baby slug in the yellow recycling bin... so soon it will be ready to feed to our frogs who live in our birdbath pond, but have not yet emerged (at least not that we've seen).
