This was a sunny, bright day ~ a good day for monarchs! I saw my first two flying around as our farrier trimmed our horse's hooves at about 10:30am. Later at 1:30pm, I took a short walk around our yard and pastures for about 20 minutes and saw 5 faded monarchs flying, nectaring, and egg-laying. Then at around 2:30pm I drove to the post office and saw a monarch fluttering amidst the wildflowers and milkweed in a roadside ditch. It seemed to get blown about when a large truck went by on the highway. Beautiful flowers, but I wished it could have a more peaceful place to try to lay eggs. The photo below is of a female monarch nectaring on a blooming and quite tall Asclepias viridis milkweed.
