Staff at the Virginia Living Museum report that the first Butterflyweed Asclepias tuberosa and Common Milkweed Asclepias syriaca shoots were noticed in the museum's Children's Learning Garden today. The Virginia Living Museum is proud to be certified as Monarch Waystation #299 with Monarch Watch. The tallest shoot of Common Milkweed was about 2 inches tall, close to a stone wall and the shed. Other shoots of both species were just visible above ground.
