Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/30/2015

Number: 1

We did not see a monarch, so I do not know when the eggs were laid. We do cut back our milkweed so they did not overwinter. We were collecting larva (april 16) from our dill and fennel (swallowtails) to watch indoors when we looked over at the milkweed which has grown back from it's winter cutback very quickly thanks to the ongoing rain. They were covered in mature cats, very young cats and eggs, so it must have been in the past few weeks after they left Mexico (Estimated March 30). There were multiple sightings like this throughout the yard. We brought 3 cats in for my daughter to watch. 2 are pupae now (April 21). One is a growing cat happily munching on a potted milkweed. We are raising both tropical and antelope for food.
