Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 05/02/2015

Number: 1

A flock of five showed up this morning in our backyard oak, checking out the small grape jelly feeder we've had up since last Saturday. Quite a sight! (We have a larger jelly feeder in front, but haven't seen them at it yet; the sparrows like it, though.) Since then, we've watched as one or two orioles come back to feed. Not much singing yet, but we assume they are checking out nearby tall nesting trees. Our yard is about an acre in northeast Lincoln, filled with trees and shrubs and native grasses and wildflowers--an unofficial but award-winning urban wildlife habitat. Many, many bird species here as well as small mammals, bats, invertebrates and insects. But orioles are our most spectacular!
