Saw a female fluttering around a patch of tiny common milkweeds. When I went out, I confirmed it was a monarch and placed mesh sleeves over the eggs. At first I thought she had laid 14 eggs but later found another patch of milkweed with a total of about 30 eggs. This is the earliest monarch I have ever seen in this area. Warmer weather that week along with winds from the south may have helped push her farther north. I put some lantana out that she nectared on before flying north east.
