I saw my first adult male monarch this morning! The bright, beautiful butterfly flew from the edge of a wooded area, sailed around a meadow, and left over a corn field. With great excitement, I searched for other evidence of monarchs - eggs - but didn't find any.
It was a gorgeous morning (upper 50’s and sunny). I wasn’t the only one enjoying it. It seemed every step I took stirred up a cloud of red admirals. They were basking in the sun on bare soil and nectaring from dandelions. I’ve never seen so many. I also saw painted ladies, sulfurs, whites, and an eastern tailed blue.
I am 100% positive it was a monarch. A great day to be among the wild things!
