I think we are about a week away from having sufficient milkweed shoots for ovipositing. Should any Monarch show up, they may have to continue inland for a bit, where the land heats up faster. Down by the lake, the cold water will take a while to warm up. Last night's fog may help deliver the heat where its needed to stimulate faster milkweed shoot growth. But there was so much runoff that some ditch banks full of milkweed were submerged and will take some more time to dry up.
One place that has winter wheat planted last week spread urea fertilizer on a windy day and fertilizer dust traveled to one milkweed site. The heavy rains since may give that spot a boost in growth. I may cut the grass near that spot myself to dissuade the County road maintenance crew from using their riders to mow everything in sight along that stretch of road.
