Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/10/2015

Number: 1

What a nice Mother's Day present! It was in flight, but I am 99% sure it was a monarch (unless it was a viceroy, which I have only ever seen one of those in my yard). It was flying from my crabapple tree (is in full bloom) to my neighbor's yard and I didn't see where it went. From a quick glance, it impressed me as more faded, not a new one, but I can't be sure. I have also seen a couple painted ladies and a red admiral so far but they are smaller. The previous years I have not seen a monarch until the beginning of June, so it was quite a surprise.
