Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/05/2015

Number: 1

At 5:45 pm, while weeding in an established butterfly garden around a wisteria vine and flowering crabapple, homeowner Mrs. Anderson and myself - Laurel Benner, observed a Monarch flying right between us! Stunned, I kept my eye on it to make sure if it happened to be a Viceroy and watched it land approx. 10 feet from me upon a crabapple blossom 15 ft. above the ground. It sat for approx. 6 seconds before it took to flight again, heading in a northward direction out of our site and beyond the tree tops. While it sat, I observed it’s lighter color hind wing and vein pattern and I did not see a line across the lower hind wing; I saw lots of white dots in it’s black border around it’s lower hind wing. We were ecstatic!!
