Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/12/2015

Number: 1

Saw Monarch in field near a golf course in Old Bridge development, flying north. Glad to see them in the Bluegrass of Kentucky. Looked very healthy but could not determine sex.

I got a good enough look to know that it was definitely a monarch. I believe it was a male but not certain. It was bright orange and looked very healthy. The temperature was around 75 degrees on a sunny day. There was a moderate breeze. I have never seen common milkweed in the field. I am on the lookout for more butterflies and for eggs on my plants. My tuberosa is ready to bloom with incarnata not far behind.

We have had rain and strong storms followed by unseasonably warn (mid 80's) weather and sun. There was rain on Sunday into Monday of this week and storms - lots of wind. On Tuesday a cold front came in and it was breezy. Winds from the north west.
