Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 05/16/2015

Number: 2

Today my husband and I were sitting under an awning at the front of our house when we saw a male ruby throat (the new resident who has claimed our garden) battle it out with another hummingbird. Couldn't tell if the other one was a male or female but have seen them chasing each other a few times over the last several days. Native honeysuckles, columbine and weigela are in bloom along with lilacs, rhododendron and azaleas. After the male returned, he sat on the edge of a 3 tier fountain and enjoyed the splashes and then nectared from some pentas we had in a pot about 3 feet from us. Very beautiful but quite small even for a hummingbird.
