Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/19/2015

Number: 1

On a dandelion. The monarch looked bright and new. It was on a dandelion, but in an area with lots of white clover as well, which our bees were on like crazy yesterday. I really don't think it was a viceroy, but I can't be 100% certain.

It was very warm (80s) and windy over the weekend, but chilly Monday and yesterday (upper 50s, low 60s). It's supposed to get down to 39 tonight at our location, which has me a little worried for the butterflies.

The milkweed sprouts I've seen in our pasture are 4-6 inches tall, but there is likely some taller in the ditches. I hadn't thought to look for eggs yet.

We've had Painted Ladies, Red Admirals, and White Sulfurs at our place. No swallowtails yet that I've seen.
