Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 05/14/2015

Number: 1

Spotted an adult on one of the alliums in my garden. Then about an hour later I saw two more about a block away.

The monarch looked bright and fresh as you can (hopefully) see in my attached photos. I only saw one in my yard. The other two were seen flying across a street about one block away as I was driving in my car shortly afterwards. Of course it's possible that one of them was the same as in my yard.

The weather last Sunday was nice, in the upper 60s. The previous day it rained a lot. It's actually been unseasonably cold lately and this week the winds have blown hard from the northwest with temps only in the 50s. I haven't seen one butterfly all this week (May 19)!

I have seen quite a few of the painted ladies up until this week. I haven't seen any others.

I finally spotted some milkweed out at a conservancy near here. They're up about 8-12 inches. I've looked for eggs but haven't seen any yet.
