Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/01/2015

Number: 1

2nd sighting of larva to pupa, to monarchs. 05/01/15 spotted 9 - 1/2" larva on self grown milkweed. Voracious eaters. Started losing some to predators. When I thought they where close to pupating I transferred last 5 large larva into house. 05/09/15 from this day each larva pupated 1 per day. Starting 05/21/15 each pupa hatched one per day and formed 5 beautiful female monarchs.

I usually hold my monarch only long enough that they have showed the want or need to fly and that I can give them one small drink of some simple syrup and water to get them going. Then a nice batch of non-windy sunshine.
