As I exited a natural area into an open field (I know the area well), I went through the "normal patch" of milkweed growing this time of year. As I passed, I noticed a Monarch caterpillar, instar 4, feeding. I have never seen one there before and I have been hiking in the area five years now. The field is not in use and is bush hogged occasionally by the owner. It is the only area I have found this type of milkweed in abundance. The caterpillar is very healthy.
