April 30th I witnessed my first female monarch busy laying eggs on the common milkweed in our garden. Found only two eggs but she worked the garden about an hour off and on. One egg was found on the top of the leaf. That was a first for me. Over next several days I brought inside either eggs or very young cats. As of May 11th, 6 cats of various stages were in our inside sanctuary. The first chrysalis was formed May 21st. As of today, the sanctuary has 8 chrysalises and one second instar cat. Obviously there has been at least one more monarch visitor. I am disappointed I missed seeing her, but will take good care of her offspring and residents of a nearby assisted living facility will help release them and send them north.
