A pair of robins have nested in the gazebo in my parent's backyard. We thing they're the same pair that have been nesting in the trees for the last 8 years, that's the age of the house and neighbourhood. Today, mom and I were sitting in the backyard (away from the gazebo) with the 2 very well trained dogs. We were preoccupied chatting when the 2 parent birds started giving alarm calls directly over our heads and diving in front of us. They were mostly screaming around mom's head. At first I thought maybe it was one parent fending off an intruder then I realized they were focused on us. I looked up and saw that our little dog had gone into the gazebo and was roaming behind the seats. I immediately suspected that a nestling had fallen out. Mom and I ran calling for the dog to get out. I ran over and coaxed her out and grabbed her as quickly as I could. One of the 2 feathered fledgelings had fallen behind the seats. As soon as we pulled the dogs together and kept it away from the area the parents calmed down. The dogs wont be allowed in the backyard for a few days. The fledgling was hopping about and testing its wings.
