Two male ruby throats came to walker's low nepeta (catmint) and buzzed around each other until one chased off the other. The first fed then visited the feeder where once again a second male (possibly the same second male?) appeared. This pair also jousted until the first male succeeded in banishing the other. He fed to satiety then left. A different male RT (same one?) then came in and fed at the feeder. Walker's low nepeta has often had hummers visit it over the last couple of years since I planted it.
Also saw a male RT on the penstemon--these are other favorite plants that the hummers visit over the summer.
Weather: cool (high of 64 F, cloudy, misty to light rain, light breezes) Big change since yesterday--high of 89F and sunny in morning to mostly cloudy then heavy thunderstorms in evening until about 1 am today. Hope the females and their eggs or young in their nests made it okay. About 2 1/2 inches of rain fell.
