Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/08/2015

Number: 1

First Monarch showed up on my farm June 6th, 2015, the second June 7th (reported in my last email to you earlier today), and the third this morning June 8th. They seem to be arriving a day apart, probably following the I-5 corridor from California up to Salem, here in the Willamette Valley, where they are rare. I only live seven miles from the freeway, and just east of Salem. Until I planted milkweed rhizomes on my farm two years ago, the last Monarch I saw here was over thirty years ago (I'm 76, an ex-butterfly collector during the Sixties). Have not observed any of the three to date laying eggs. They are very flighty, as I noted earlier, and rarely sit down. RTP
