Noted Durham naturalist Rayfield Pye reported seeing one monarch on Saturday, June 6th in the north end of Port Hope. The location is near the Ganaraska River and fish ladder, where flowering shrubs and trees are currently in bloom. Reported by Rayfield to e-butterfly.org

Port Hope was home to the noted Canadian writer Farley Mowat, who died in May 2014 a few days short of his 93rd birthday.
