Saw 4 monarchs today in the late afternoon. Two flying high probably looking for the non-existent nectar flowers. One male patrolling a favorite hookup area. One female just settling down for the night. Caught and tested her for OE -- clean. May be gravid -- we'll see. Milkweed sparse in the Buena Vista Prairie Chicken preserve. Only about 1 foot tall. Monarchs were probably here a week ago, but weather didn't permit much observation.
