I am adding a report from last fall by a relative in the River Falls, WI area. On a two acre field of red clover, he saw what he estimated to be hundreds of Monarchs on Sept. 28, 2014.
I am sorry that I do not know what kind of wind and weather followed that sighting, so I do not know how successful their migration might have been after that date.
It is a very late sighting of so many Monarchs. Extraordinary, in this northern part of Wisconsin, I would say.
