Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 06/14/2015

Number: 1

1:00, 80 degrees with intermittent periods of sunshine and cloudiness, it was bright & sunny during my 20 minute observation. The monarch butterfly flitted among several common milkweed plants near the front of my house. It stayed near the unopened flowers buds at the top. Iit flew off and returned to the same 3-4 milkweed plants. I couldn't get close enough when it's wings were open to tell which sex; I didn't see it move towards the edge of the leaves or lay any eggs. It was alone and seemed large, brightly colored and it's abdomen appeared a bit swollen - maybe it had recently emerged.
