While driving the back farm roads north of Monett, a friend took me to a patch along the roadside. It was a 30x6 ft stretch of Asclepias purpurascens (Common Milkweed). As we were observing insects on the blossoms, a gorgeous male Monarch appeared and dazzled us for many minutes before flying off. Our first sighting of a Monarch near Monett, MO. :)
