I saw my first monarch today, a worn female, laying eggs on milkweed at the park where my chikdren were playing. It flitted about the playground, examining thistle and short milkweed growing out of the mulch. She laid a single egg on a short common milkweed stem in the center of the playground, as my kids watched her from the swings.
