Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/17/2015

Number: 1

While looking over the common milkweed plants for eggs today at the Monona Butterfly Garden, Waystation 475, I found two small monarch caterpillars, probably second instars. I have only found 1 egg so far this spring so this was quite a surprise. I have seen more monarchs than usual this spring but they are not staying to lay eggs, or at least where I can find them.
