I saw a dull-colored, rough-looking female monarch flitting around the milkweed in my native prairie boulevard garden. I suddenly noticed that she was turning her lower body toward the unopened flowers. I assumed she was laying eggs. She moved around to numerous common milkweed plants all afternoon. It was very exciting as we've had an exceptionally nice, early spring. (Two days later I found ten eggs on the boulevard plants! I would bet they all belonged to her.)
