Here are some observations for the last couple of weeks:
Explored BigLakeFarms Sanctuary (80 acres) on 6/9/15. Very encouraging. Saw several Monarchs, one a female laying eggs. The following Sunday, we walked the area again; this time saw six or more Monarchs, including a mating pair. Jim Pederson is interested in my recommendation as to cutting the thistle patches that he is required to cut. Best guess now is July 20.
Activity here in "the hollow" has been modest: I have been seeing eggs (about 1-2 weeks ago).....now I am seeing some 3rd instar caterpillars. Have not seen Monarch Butterflies the last few days.
Will tour my back hill spots and big lake area again today. I would like to get a good take on the caterpillar stage so I can make a good estimate for Jim's cutting.
