Sightings report image

My family and I visited Mission Point lighthouse near Traverse City. In years past, I have found monarchs there. Today, I searched the long stretch of milkweed along the lakeshore in front of the lighthouse. I checked at least 100 plants, and found no larvae. But I did watch a very worn male patrolling the milkweed south of the lighthouse, skimming the top of the milkweed and then periodically alighting on the milkweed to nectar or sun himself in the uppermost leaves of common milkweed plants. I hope he finds a mate. I have photos which I need yet to download from my camera. I did find a very cool crab spider, stunningly beautiful with amazing camouflage. As I held the leaf it rested on, my kids took photos. See photo.
