Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/14/2015

Number: 1

Two adults in a field with many milkweed at Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge. This was my first sighting of the year - but I had not been to this location for a week. Today (July 18) on an official butterfly watch program with RI Audubon Society, we found two monarch caterpillars in the same field. This must indicate adults have been here for a while. We saw only these two caterpillars and one monarch adult despite 6 observers looking for 2 hours in a very large area of milkweed at the Trustom Pond National Wildlife refuge (41.37, -71.58). Photo of one of the caterpillars attached.
