Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/28/2015

Number: 1

The last couple of years in the month of June, I seem to have less monarch activity. Again this year, the have showed up again in July & usually have eggs, larva etc until September/October. The strangest thing has happened this year, I have an established area of A. syriaca. It is about 15 foot from my chicken coop. I have found 40 and counting chrysalis hanging in & around the coop.
I have never have seen so many 5th instar caterpillars in the garden. They are very successful! Our red wasp population isn't quite as bad this year. The milkweed isn't in the best shape, with aphids & milkweed bugs. The females don't seen to mind laying on it either.
