Robin (Nesting Behavior)

Date: 07/29/2015

Number: 1

I have had Robins make a nest in my front porch area. First, they made a nest on top of my mailbox....which I moved. They started making another a couple days later, although I don't know if it was the same Robins or not. I moved that nest as well and again a couple days later they started building! This time I just left it alone. The nest got moved (likely by the mailman) down to a bench I have under the mailbox, and surprisingly the Robins stayed with it! They even laid three eggs in it.
A couple weeks went by and the eggs started to hatch. I decided to move the nest one more time as with it so close to the ground I was worried about predators getting at the babies once they started making noise.

I built a shelf and mounted it 6' off the ground and moved the nest with one hatched baby and two eggs up there. I was surprised again that they still came back to it!

In the time since I put the nest up high, the three eggs have hatched and all have left the nest. I found it empty and no Robins around at all today, so I took the shelf down.

I mainly wanted to report that they didn't abandon the nest after moving it so many times!
