I released 117 monarchs from the third generation and am currently raising 132 caterpillars from the fourth generation. Only monitoring 8 eggs now. There was much mortality with these eggs compared to the spring generation. I've lost almost 25 eggs because they turned black and never opened. It's difficult to tell but I think I've seen black eggs on some of the leaves in the wild. Could be environmental -- hot temperatures perhaps? But still my numbers for both generations are phenomenal. So far I've lost only one cat with this generation. It didn't make it through its molt.
